Problem: Cannot insert the lens to the eyes.
Solutions: This problem usually caused by either of the following.
- Badly Open the lid. The right way to open eyelid is opening greater than the iris and you can not blink.
- Open the eyelid well. But when the lens is inserting into the eye those fingers get weak with open eyelids. Then you will have the ability to blink (Remember that if you do the right way you will can not blink).
- You do not dare to insert the lens to the eyes.
- If you can not solve this problem. You can take a video of inserting the lens and send it to Line @drbirdcl so Dr. Bird will be able to advise you correctly.
Problem: Insert the lens that move to sclera (white part of the eye).
Solutions: This problem usually caused by either of the following.
- During insert the lens into the central of eye or cornea, your eye move away from the lens. Then lens become misalign. So you can solve this problem by open both eyes and look at your eyes in the mirror. This will minimize eye movement away from the lens.
- Do not forget to look down while close your eyes after insert the lens. So the upper lid will press contact lens to bottom of white part of the eye. Easiest way to solve this problem is looking down while gently close eye after insertion.
Problem: Can not see clearly.
Solutions: This problem usually caused by either of the following.
- Slightly bubbles are under the lens after inserted (most common). If you notice them you should remove and re-insert. And you can solve this problem by drop artificial tears or normal saline into the lens. The mirror is placed flat on the table, Bend your upper body and neck so that your face is parallel to the table. While keeping your head in this position and try to look down at your chin. Then insert the lens.
- Lens dirty and there are protein deposits. So you can solve this problem by clean the lens with protein cleaner such as Progent at least every 3 months.
- Contact lenses is inserted to the wrong side. You can solve this problem by check the lens before insertion. If you forget the correct side of lenses just call Dr. Bird
Problem: Eye pain & Red eyes.
Solutions: This problem usually caused by either of the following.
- Debris or foreign body is an important problem. Especially if it is under the lens, The patient will get eye irritation and sore eyes immediately. So you can solve this problem by remove the lens and wash out then re-insert.
- After remove the lens if you notice that your lens is damaged/chipped/cracked/broken. Do not insert the lens into the eyes. Because it may cause eye injuries. Just call a doctor or optometrist to order the new one.
- Allergic to preservatives in contact lens solution. The solutions that is not effervescent solution type have preservative. Which may cause some people are allergic to preservatives and get discomfort of the eye when insert lens. So you can solve this problem by rinse the lens with normal saline before insertion. To clear the preservative up from the lens (Caution : the normal saline is opened should be threw out after opened 14 days. Because normal saline is preservatives-free. The use of normal saline for a long time may cause bacteria to grow in a bottle of normal saline. Do not soak the lens in normal saline because there are not any preservative in a bottle. Be careful of the tip of bottle that should not touch anything else. It will allow germs into the bottle of normal saline.)
- Hands washing are not clean. Soap or foreign substances get into the eyes.
- Use too much time of lens insertion. The lens dry and get discomfort after insertion. So you can solve this problem by close your eyes after insertion for a few minutes then you will get better. To prevent this problem you should practice of insertion.
- Open eyes too long time cause dry eyes. To prevent this problem you should practice of insertion.
Problem: Eye irritate after inserted the lens.
Solutions: This problem usually caused by either of the following.
- As a new user, who are just beginning to use RGP lens (or who do not wear RGP lens for a long time) may feel discomfort in the first few days of use. The eyes are most discomfort in the first day. Then gradually decrease until feel almost nothings after use the lens for 4-7 days. In the first day (a few days) if your eyes is irritated too much, you need to close your eyes as soon as the lens insertion. Eye usually irritates only when you blink, so you will feel nothing when you close your eyes.
- Hands are not clean, dirt can stuck to contact lens. When you insert it into the eye this can cause of eye irritation. So wash your hands thoroughly before lens insertion. And use a paper towel (kitchen towel) to reduce dust attach your hand.
- The lens is out of eye center. Solution is move it to center or remove and then re-insert.
- There is dust under the lens. So you can solve this problem by remove the lens to wash out and then re-insert. If persistent irritation in the eye. Remove contact lenses and call a doctor or optometrist.
- After remove the lens if you notice that your lens is damaged/chipped/cracked/broken. Do not insert the lens into the eyes. Because it may cause eye injuries. Just call a doctor or optometrist to order the new one.
- Slight eye irritation symptoms that occur all the time or almost every time after wearing the lenses. Use the lubricant solution before insertion will give more comfortable.
Problem: Temporary discomfort of insertion.
Solutions: This problem usually caused by either of the following.
- Soak with effervescent solution type or hydrogen peroxide (Clean care etc.) less than 6 hours. So you can solve this problem by removing contact lenses out. And rinse all off a bottle of normal saline. Symptoms of eye irritation may still remain, but will be better. If too much eye irritation when blinking just close your eyes. But if the symptoms do not get better after 4 hours then need to see a doctor (Usually the symptoms are mild and will improve rapidly after 1-2 hours of rinsing).
