Caution
Lens cleanliness
- Keep your fingernails short and clean. If you have long fingernails, they may scratch your eyes while inserting the lens.
- Always wash your hands, then rinse and dry them with paper towels before handling contact lenses.
- If the lens touches anything besides your fingers or eyes, such as if it drops to the floor, table, or touches your cheek, you should clean the lens again with contact lens solution and then rinse it with normal saline before insertion.
- Handle the lens carefully.
- If the lens drops and lands upside down, use a wet suction cup to grab it. Please watch the video below.
- If the lens drops in a face-up position, you should use a wet finger to gently touch the lens and then lift it up. Please watch the video below.
- If you soak the lens for more than one day, you should soak it again with fresh contact lens solution before inserting the lens.
- If your scleral lens solution is empty, you can temporarily use soft lens solution to clean the lens.
Contact lens case
Always pour the scleral lens solution out of the case, then clean the case with water and let it dry.
Suction cup (Plunger)
Always clean the suction cup with water and dry it after use. You should change the suction cup every year. If you see black spots or any color on the suction cup, it may be caused by mold or bacteria, so you should change it immediately.
Prohibition: wearing the lens “ If ”
- The lens may be damaged, chipped, or broken. After removing the contact lens, if you notice that the lens is defective, do not insert it, as it can cause eye injury. You should call to order a new lens.
- If the scleral lens solution is empty or you forget to soak the lens in the scleral lens solution, ***never soak the lens in tap water, normal saline, drinking water, or anything except contact lens solution.
- Watch for red eyes, eye pain, eye inflammation, or green eye gunk.
Tips
- Don’t use expired normal saline to clean or fill the lens before inserting it into your eyes.
- During the initial period of wearing scleral lenses, you should gradually increase the wearing time until you can wear them all day. For example, wear the lens for 1 hour on the first day and then 2 hours on the second day.
- Don’t keep the lens case in the bathroom or bathroom area.
- If you don’t wear the lenses for a long time, always clean the lenses and keep them dry without scleral lens solution. You should soak the lenses in scleral lens solution for at least 6 hours before using them again.
