Eye irritation before lens removal (less common).
- First, check the exact position of the lens on the eye: is it on the cornea or the sclera (the white part of the eyeball)?
- If the lens is positioned on the cornea: Gently move the lens before removing it. If you feel discomfort after 2 hours, please consult a doctor. Do not wear the lens if the discomfort lasts until the evening.
- If the lens is positioned on the sclera: Try to locate the lens and remove it using a plunger. The area where the lens has moved may appear more red compared to the surrounding tissue. This area may be a bit red for hours, but you should feel less discomfort over time. If you feel discomfort after removing it for 4 hours, please consult a doctor. Do not wear the lens if the discomfort lasts until the evening.
Eye irritation after lens removal.
- Discomfort after lens removal may be caused by:
- The lens sticking firmly before removal. Please ensure the lens has moved on your cornea before removing it to prevent discomfort.
- Small dust particles.
- Normally, you should experience less discomfort over time. If you feel discomfort after 2 hours of removal, please consult Dr. Bird.
- Do not wear the lens if the discomfort lasts until the evening.
- If you consistently feel discomfort after removal, please consult Dr. Bird.
Can make lens move by
- After waking up, apply 1-2 drops of artificial tears to each eye..
- Close your eyes and draw the outer corners of your eyelids (the canthi) toward the temporal side 30 times (see the video below).
- Then, open your eyes and look in the mirror. Try using finger pressure on your upper eyelid. Notice if the lens moves with pressure applied to the upper eyelid. If it does, then the lens is removable.
- If the lens does not move, repeat the previous steps. You may engage in other activities, such as brushing your teeth, while blinking normally. (Be careful not to open your eyes too wide while washing your face.) After several blinks, the lens should move on its own. Don’t forget to check the lens movement before removing it.
- If the lens is sticking firmly to your eye, it may be difficult to move it each day. Please consult your doctor.
- Not cleaning protein deposits as recommended may also make the lens difficult to move.
