Before removing

1. Prepare your tools for removing the scleral lens, including a plunger, mirror, saline, lens case, and solution.
2. Always wash your hands with soap.
3. Dry your hands with a lint-free towel or paper towel before touching the lenses.
4. Remove your right lens first.

Removing with a plunger

1. Wet the tip of the plunger with saline.
2. Look straight ahead in the mirror.
3. Open your upper and lower eyelids.
4. Gently touch the plunger to the lower third of the lens (to prevent excess suction) and pull it away.
5. Slide the lens off the plunger and place it in the lens case.

Removing without a plunger

1. Look straight ahead in the mirror.
2. Press the tip of your index finger on the very edge of the upper lid and gently push it into your eye just above the top edge of the lens.
3. Block the lens from moving down by pressing the tip of your index finger from your other hand on the very edge of the lower lid, just below the bottom edge of the lens.
4. Look upward until you feel the lens being blocked by pressure on the upper lid margin.
5. Scoop the upper edge of the lens off the eye with the upper lid margin, look up further, and blink slowly to remove the lens.
